Run, don’t walk, to get surf lessons from Luciano. I was surfing for 2 years at home with other instructors and didn’t see any progress. On day one with Luciano I was catching every wave. By day 7 I was on a short board and in the lineup. Having a former professional as your surf instructor is truly a blessing. I would highly recommend Luciano and Adolfo at Ocean Academy.

Luciano is incredibly knowledgeable and patient and whole heartedly desires for you to find success. I appreciate his attention and quality experience to help teach me. Some people can do but not teach, Luciano is amazing on his own but can also teach, and help you accomplish your own goals and have a great time doing it)

I had the pleasure of taking surfing lessons at Ocean Academy DR in January and June 2019. What an experience! The staff there are professional, engaging and patient. They educate you in the full experience of surfing from noticing the type of tide the day your surfing to how to balance on the board. Luciano and his team of coaches are the best and I would recommend anyone that has surfed before or wants to try it, this is the best school. Unfortunately the most a person can rate in terms of stars is 5 but I would give this surf school 10 stars. Thank you so much for the experience!

Ocean Academy is probably the best surf school I have ever been to. Luciano Gonzales is kind, knowledgeable and most importantly a great teacher. His method over 5 days literally re-taught me the basics of surfing and allowed me to break barriers and issues that were plaguing my progresses. I recommend Ocean Academy to anyone, kids, family or adult surfers who want to have a ton of fun while truly learning how to surf better.

Luciano Gonzalez is by far the best surf instructor you will ever get: kind, patient, and uncompromising on safety. Positive energy flowing all around, his passion for the ocean is immense and his talent for sharing it is without limits. His team is absolutely amazing as well.

I have been visiting Cabarete for a long time. We took surfing lessons with Ocean Academy for the whole family: my wife, my 3 daughters (aged 12,12 and 6) and myself. It was AWESOME for all of us! Luciano is fantastic, has a great crew and you will get great teaching!
The spot is also spectacular: the long reef barrier allows for any levels to take lesson (a 3y old can take safe lessons on the white water even when there are 8ft waves breaking on the reef!). And there's shade everywhere, a restaurant, bathroom, shower, etc. Truly a family paradise!

I recently traveled to Cabarete with my 8yr old daughter and wanted her to learn to surf and I wanted to get better.
Luciano and Ocean Academy was amazing- the instructors were so great with my daughter and I felt she was in such great hands- they have safety in mind first and she had so much fun. She was up and surfing (with a little push) on every wave. We went back every day- the instructors felt like family by the end of trip and we are already planning our next trip.

It had been years since I was on a surfboard. I had a wonderful experience in my surf lesson with professional surfer Luciano Gonzalez. He is a patient and encouraging instructor, and it felt amazing to be riding the waves again in such a beautiful place! Even better, proceeds from the lessons go to benefit local children in the DR. Before visiting Cabarete, I had no surfing experience at all - and I'm so glad I chose Ocean Academy to get started! Luciano and his team were very patient, and knew exactly what I needed to work on at my own pace. I was a little nervous at first, but I honestly couldn't have been in safer hands.

Luciano the head instructor is an amazing teacher for kite surfing and surfing. He taught me both during three visits to Cabarete: January 2018, June 2018, and June 2019. Very hands on and you’re learning from an ex professional, so how can you beat that!

I loved it in Cabarete, but what it made even more amazing was the fascinating surf experience that I made with Ocean Academy DR. They had very reliable and fun equipment, really helpful and awesome Coaches. I recommend to everyone to check it out and visit Ocean Academy DR

Ocean Academy is located right in front of one of the best surfing spots around Cabarete and had a board that suited every level. I happened to be able find the exact board I ride at home! I visited for a week in the spring and every day the morning swell devolved until my last day when there were some hallow ones— truly an amazing week!

On top of the location the place is run by Luciano, a local kite and surf champion who welcomes you into the community with open arms. I’m a strong believer that people make a place special, especially for something like a surf school. A lifetime of local knowledge and experience will ensure you’re always at the right spot at the right time! Can’t wait to visit again!

A native Floridian, I’ve always wanted to learn to surf. I’ve tried many times and never been successful.until ocean academy DR. Luciano is the best teacher not just because of his skill but how he communicates in his teaching, especially with respect to body awareness. After just the first land lesson, I was catching at least 90 percent of my waves and by the end of the week I could catch them on my own. Thanks to Luciano and his team, I now can experience the magic surfing has to offer. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else!

I took surf lessons with Luciano Gonzalez twice, because he really knows how to read the ocean and the waves, he is patient with every student and takes enough time for stretching and preparing before Surfing. Even in his free time he's open to spend time with his students, going out for dinner or for a drink. Also, Cabarete is such a great and international place, everyone is so friendly and nice! Compared to my surf lessons in Bali, Ocean Academy DR offers high quality surf lessons for a reasonable price - I can highly recommend this place and would come back any time:)

We had much fun learning to surf here. The owner Luciano and his staff are very welcoming, friendly and skilled surfer. We had children in our group and they had a lot of fun.
